Confirmation that You’re #1

by Sandra Allen Lovelace @SandraALovelace

Julie never seemed to be able to please her boss. Her car was in the shop again. The ten pounds she gained plagued her mercilessly. When a dear friend forgot to meet her for ice cream, she crawled into a pit of despair and pulled the opening in behind her.

“Just once I’d like to know I’m #1 in somebody’s book . . . anybody’s book . . . or day . . . or moment.”

Praise God that no matter how hard we try, we can’t hide from Him.

One word that describes the LORD is immanent. The online English Oxford Living Dictionaries defines the word immanent when speaking of God as “permanently pervading and sustaining the universe.” God not only supports and maintains the world. His presence penetrates and saturates every place and aspect, all the time.

Since God is a spirit, infinite and eternal, He’s free of the physical limits we know. He never runs out of energy or purpose. He doesn’t get distracted by one problem, project, or person and miss another. He exists outside time and can’t be controlled by clocks or zones.

He’s always about His will to bring glory to His Name and bless His chosen ones. That doesn’t mean He’ll reach in and scoop us out of every difficulty. Sometimes tight spots are training grounds for a closer walk with Him. But it does mean that with every breath He grants us, we’re #1 to God.

The Creator of the universe is right next to Julie with His guiding hand, no matter how deep or dark the pit. If that’s where you are today, or find yourself in the future, He’s with you too.

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
Even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast (Psalm 139:8-10).*

What attribute of God is encouraging your heart today?
Your response is a blessing. Thank you.

With delight in my God’s presence,
Sandra
