Final Post

Split calendarYes, this is my final post for the year.

I’ve shared a bit here about my review of 2015.

It’s time to look ahead to the start of the coming year.

Perhaps you, like me, are hoping to set some goals based on what you want to see happen. Then, if we’re diligent, I suppose we should lay out steps to reach those goals. Perhaps include a schedule of deadlines. Maybe even plan ways to measure success along the way.

That all sounds organized and wonderful, a method I’ve followed myself.

But I’m learning there’s a better way.

The proper place to begin the goal-setting process, or anything process for that matter, is with the LORD.

hands_holding_earth_65After all, He’s the One who holds the future in His sovereign hands. He knows us better than we know ourselves. His love is immeasurable. His plans are perfect and for our benefit.

So let’s set aside the fur-coat or even the get-out-of-debt type of hopes and dreams. Instead, let’s get serious about seeking the will of the Father and bringing the desires of our hearts and work of our hands in line with it.

We have a role model for such efforts.

“‘I [the Christ] have come to do your will, O God.'” Hebrews 10:7

Our endeavor is sensible and practical.

“Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is.” Ephesians 5:15-17

Our success is assured.

“This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us – whatever we ask – we know that we have what we asked of him.”  1 John 5:14-15

“Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.”  Psalm 37:3-4

What goals has God set for our lives over the next 12 months?
What can we do to advance them for His glory and our good?

It will take time to pursue these answers. Thankfully the One we seek is close at hand.

Beloved LORD ADONAI,
Please broaden our knowledge of You, deepen our love for You, and widen our trust in Your hand throughout 2016. Amen

In His tender, all-powerful hands,
Sandra
