God is my Realtor

I’ve got a need that only God can meet.

Hmmmmm . . .

Pretty much God is the One who meets all my needs, either directly or indirectly.

The need that’s on my mind these days is the sale of our house.

It’s been on the market with various realtors for more than three years. If you’ve ever sold a home, I’m thinking you know what that means. It takes a lot of work and it’s distracting to live in a house that’s for sale; making the beds every day, keeping the kitchen clean, not letting the laundry bucket overflow, _____you fill in the blank______It’s demanding.

10 from DockOver the last six month the process got tiring, not to mention discouraging. And with only about six showings, it was time to rethink.

The conclusion we reached was to pursue the For Sale by Owner process. We started by working hard to improve what we’d already done to prepare the house. You’ll find photos at the Lakefront Retreat website we’re developing. Please leave comments.

As we’ve been making this shift, my brain keeps asking me what makes me think I can accomplish such a complex task.

One day this answer popped up, “I can’t.

But God can.”

That’s when I knew I needed to make prayer my main effort. When I did, I remembered verses like these.

“The LORD is my shepherd.” Psalm 23:1

“The LORD is my strength and my shield.” Psalm 28:7

“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”  Psalm 46:1

“O Sovereign LORD, my strong deliverer.”  Psalm 140:7

“Praise be to the LORD my Rock.” Psalm 144:1

“For I am the LORD, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”  Isaiah 43:3

“You, O LORD, are our Father, our Redeemer.”  Isaiah 63:16

God holds a variety of roles to meet the needs of His Chosen People. In light of that, I asked Him to step in and be my Realtor. I smiled when I heard my own request. It sounded a bit odd, but there it was.

11 fall trees (1)Since then I’ve been having more detailed conversations with my Realtor. Now I’m asking Him to sell the house in a way that will display His sovereignty and love. I don’t know what the final contract or closing will look like. I still don’t know where we’re going.

It’s a little scary yet exciting at the same time.

Actually that pretty much describes the adventure of life with God and me.
