More Than Mundane

More and more I find God popping into my life like a brand new billboard in the middle of an empty field.

Step 1Step 2Step 3

Where did that come from?
Was it there before and I’m seeing it for the first time?
What’s the message?

RobinI’d been walking my daily 1.5 mile circuit for about a month when I heard a familiar bird call. Is it warm enough for robins already? I took my eyes off the sidewalk and searched the trees. There he was sitting on a lofty perch across the street. His song stirred thoughts of spring and drew me to scan the landscape.

The bare branches silhouetted against the lightening sky reminded me of my great grandmother’s doilies. Why don’t people use those things any more? I rounded a bend and glanced up a second time. Wow. The horizon was flooded with color. I tried to take in the wash of pinks and purples before me. My feet came to a halt.Sunrise SC“Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Psalm 46:10

What if this head-down, eyes-on-toes view is blocking out heaven-sent, soul-deep delight? If I’ve been surrounded by a feast without realizing I was hungry, that’s got to change.

HabitatI turned down Oak Street and raised my eyes. Expectancy flashed. What’s going on up there? I picked up my pace. Has anything changed since yesterday? The Habitat for Humanity crew huddled against the chill. Wonder what they’ll get done today.

A few yards down the way a sapling sported pink blooms. I’m not the only one ready for spring.

Golden HourThe rising sun polished the trees at the end of my route with golden hour light. It was okay to keep my eyes on the path until I felt comfortable with the footing. But that phase was passed. I lifted my heart to the One who knows me best, filled with excitement for all He’s got planned.

“I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from?

My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.” Psalm 121:1,2*

  1. Hi Sandra,
I walk my dogs daily, and it’s amazing the gifts God provides each step of the way. Thanks for the reminder to look up.
