Was your experience anything like mine? Those who shared the Gospel with me attached the idea that life would be grand once I accepted Christ. My initial zeal seemed to confirm their message as I took the baby steps of faith. When bumps in the road appeared, I was told they could be overcome through Christ. So I buckled down and tried harder, over and over and over again in my search for peace.
After all, doesn’t Colossians 1:19-20 say that Christ came to bring peace through His death on the cross?
Life became a ride on a cork tossed about by a stormy sea, sometimes with a peek at peace from atop a wave, often in despair at the bottom of a trough. In spite of my best efforts, I didn’t seem to be able to find or arrange an environment where I could rest in true peace. It took years … decades, in fact … for me to recognize the falsehood I’d swallowed. My concordance study on peace is making sense of the dilemma.
Christ did come to bring peace in that His blood met the requirement of the Law. His death and resurrection reconciled to the Father all those who belong to Him by faith. But, in case you haven’t noticed, the peace He bestows hasn’t erased or paused the effects of the Fall. Sin still abounds, and will until He returns.
Then what kind of peace did Christ earn, secure, provide? Share on X- Christ gave Himself to be our peace. Eph. 2:14
- Christ took up residence within those who trust Him. 2 Cor. 3:15, Rom. 8:10, Gal. 2:20, Eph. 3:17, Col. 1:27
- Christ’s peace is beyond our ability to understand, and is available to guard our hearts and minds. Phil. 4:7
- All we need to do is LETÂ the peace of Christ overtake us as He desires. Col. 3:15
Have you tried, the way I have, to make things come together so everybody’s happy to the point of exhaustion where peace looks more like collapse? And when you pick yourself up and start all over again, you’re really not refreshed? If you’re starting to recognize the endless treadmill you’re on, maybe it’s time to pursue peace by letting go.
Where does peace appear on your list of desires?
What would it take for you to slow down and let the peace of Jesus overtake you?
with prayers for rest and peace for your soul,
Sandra
