The days were long. The tasks seemed unending. She carried on with devotion, but joy was a distant memory. In the end, confusion and exhaustion stole her ability to pray. Can you identify with my friend Donna?

If so, perhaps her discovery will lead you to walk on similar heights.

The inkling of an idea started when her eyes flowed over the words of Romans 8:26-27.*

In the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; and He [the Son of God] who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Her mind paused.

Since Paul mentioned the dilemma in his letter to the Romans, evidently she wasn’t the first person who struggled with uncertainty about how to pray. Her shoulders relaxed. She pondered the concept that Holy Spirit intercedes for us—steps in to communicate our pain, despair, desire, pleasure, and more with sounds too intense for words.

Surely the Comforter’s intervention for her sake reflected the very items she herself needed to present at the throne of grace. What if she could tap into His groanings?

She undertook the quest immediately as she bowed her head and petitioned Holy Spirit to reveal the substance of His conversations with Jesus on her behalf. The first word that came was peace accompanied by a sense of being completely at rest though the demands she carried hadn’t changed. “Yes, Father. Please teach me how to rest in Your presence and surround me with Your peace.”

Activities of the day interrupted, but she returned to her adventure that evening. “Holy Spirit, Comforter and Counselor, please grant me insight that I might grow closer to the Father.” A smattering of words came to her and she opened her bedside Bible to find their source.

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth derives its name, that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with power through His Spirit in the inner man, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; and that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ which surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled up to all the fullness of God.Ephesians 3:14-19

The intimacy of the Trinity enveloped her and Donna surrendered with weeping into their arms. She was not only known but loved … simply because she was the woman made in their image.

A new level of relationship with the Most High God opened that day for my friend Donna. She began to walk in the freedom He created her for.

How about you? Are you ready for the faith adventure?
Surely it’s Time to be YOU!

  1. Dear Sandy

I enjoyed this. I thsnk God for the Holy spirit because many times I do not know how to pray and exactly how to express my feelings and desires. But I know that he does. Praise God.
