Hurricane season often surrounds us with a general wariness about safety and provisions should the weather turn sour. When warnings come, we do everything we can to make sure we and our property will be secure in the midst of high winds, driving rain, and whatever else a storm throws at us. Some of us have the same sensations and responses when the sun is shining and the forecast is clear.

No matter the threat. No matter our vulnerability. There’s a place of peace where we will not be shaken.

God is our refuge and strength,
A very present help in trouble.
Therefore we will not fear, though the earth should change
And though the mountains slip into the heart of the sea;
Though its waters roar and foam,
Though the mountains quake at its swelling pride. Selah.
Psalm 46:1*

God is who He says He is and that absolute Truth IS our refuge, strength, and help.

The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
Psalm 18:2

We can wrap ourselves in the absolute Truth of God’s all-powerful, unfailing, redeeming love. He IS our rock, fortress, deliverer, refuge, shield, salvation, stronghold.

The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
The righteous runs into it and is safe.
Proverbs 18:10

We don’t need to hide in the basement to escape the storms of life. We can rest in the absolute Truth of God’s protective presence. He IS our strong tower.

If you continue in My word, then you are truly disciples of Mine;
and you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.
John 8:32

We can soak ourselves in His Word and revel in the absolute Truth of God’s adoption, delight, and favor. He IS our Father and our freedom.

The Scriptures are filled with absolute Truth, and we do well to surround and fill ourselves with every grain. As we do, we’re able to see what’s truly going on around us from God’s perspective. Living in the reality of our fallen world by the absolute Truth of His character and precepts, according to the absolute Truth of who we are in Christ, by the absolute Truth of Holy Spirit’s counsel provides all the security we need to abide and rejoice in peace.

A few more bricks to construct your own secure retreat.

Behold, You [God] desire truth in the innermost being,
And in the hidden part You will make me [David] know wisdom.
Psalm 51:6

Jesus said to him [Thomas], “I am the way, and the truth, and the life;
no one comes to the Father but through Me.”
John 14:6

[Jesus to His Father] Sanctify them [His disciples] in the truth; Your word is truth.
John 17:17

I [Jesus] will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever;
that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him,
but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you.

John 14:17

In Him [Christ], you [believers] also, after listening to the message of truth,
the gospel of your salvation—having also believed, you were sealed in Him with the Holy Spirit of promise.

Ephesians 1:13

But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth;
for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers.

John 4:23

How high, how strong is your Tower of Truth?
The higher and stronger the walls, the more you’ll make Time to be YOU!

  1. Dear Sandra,
    Thank you for the encouragement and truth from God’s Word! I also really enjoyed your interview with Leslie Vernick! I am beginning the journey of discovering who God made me to be, and the first step for me is finding a good church for teaching and fellowship. I have been isolated and I long for community/family.
    May God continue to bless and use you!

    1. That’s a wise great step, Jenny. Take your time and keep your antennae up until you feel comfortable. Aligning yourself with a church is an important step.
      May the Lord lead you clearly along His path for you. Amen =8-D
